A new kind of spam, known as IP spam or Net spam, is generated through the internal Windows messaging service, which is actually a tool provided to enable network administrators to send messages to multiple users via the network. (It shouldn't be confused with the Windows Messenger instant messaging program, which is completely different.) Advertisers are now increasingly abusing this service by sending messages to large blocks of random IP addresses via the Internet. If you are online with an IP address that happens to be included in the block, the message will suddenly appear on your screen if the Windows messaging service is active on your computer. The service is activated by default on Windows NT, 2000, and Windows XP. This tool enables you to just switch off the messaging service, getting rid of these annoying advertising messages forever.
